In today’s world, computers often provide answers for the correct dosage of medication we will give to our patients; however, computers do crash. It is then we must be able to administer whatever amount of medication prescribed for our patient precisely and on our own. Not to mention there’s also the issue of passing intimidating dosage calculation proficiency exams. Yikes! This is probably the reason you find yourself reading my book now- you need help! Breathe a sigh of relief because your life is going to change. Dosage calculation should NEVER, EVER be complicated. I am not a fan of four to five page long rationales explaining in non-relatable terms why you missed a simple calculation problem. Random online videos lead you to plethoras of fine nurses, who have the best of intentions, attempting to teach dosage calculation with no solid method. Don’t even get me started on those who say they hate dosage calculation, however, or that you don’t need to use a formula! Say what?! Tune all negative advice out. PLEASE. This is simply a distractor like the ones hidden in many dosage calculation problems. You heard me right. We know you hide distractors in there, you super smart nursing professors! Ok, I’m being slightly dramatic, yes. I deeply appreciate nursing professors for the amazing work they do, but I am primarily here for my students: The ones who put every ounce of their blood, sweat, and tears into studying while somehow managing to function on too little sleep with too many cups of coffee.
