Enoch is frequently used or assigned as supplemental material within academic settings to help students and scholars discover or better understand the cultural and historical context of the early Christ. When it says, "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets"(Heb. 1:1), the Book of Enoch gives commentators important insight into what many ancient Jews and early Christians believed. For those who are unfamiliar with 1 Enoch, it is the ancient apocalyptic literary work known as the Book of Enoch.
