Behind the works presented here lies a story of the lives and events that intercepted and intertwined with the artist’s during a personal and historically tumultuous period. Rather than succumbing to the weight of those experiences, artist/healer/seeker Laurie Kanyer courageously chose instead to find balance and meaning through a dedicated practice of collage-making. For her there was no separation between art and life – one necessarily sustained the other. This resulting collection (as part remembrance, part gift), rises heroically like the proverbial phoenix from the ashes of her journey through life’s uncertainty. Within their bejeweled surfaces and interiors lies a vaulted search for truth, guidance, connection, and hope. In sharing them, she asks us to consider that collage is so much more than the simple act of pasting paper to paper.
