Description

Kruder & Di Gioia »--------« A years of friendship forms the foundation: On their first joint album, »--------«, Peter Kruder and Roberto Di Gioia lead a seemingly intimate conversation, into which we are so-called listeners are drawn in. A wonderfully magical music in which you can lose yourself, but above all: find and think again. »-------« is a wonderfully elegiac piano album. With a certain authority, one could call this music a neo-classic, the rather kitschten regions of the genre avoid Di Gioia and Kruder however. "This is an obvious influence for this type of music, art never arises in a vacuum," says Kruder. But honestly, I don't know what is currently happening in this direction, I lack the overview. The two play ambient, downtempo and minimally informed music that is wistful, elegiac, in places even claustrophobic. The vastness of Stanley Kubrick's "A Space Odyssee" combines tracks such as "Falling Down" with a lament song about the beauty of the dying planet Earth and even an insane visual power: again and again you think of great moments in film history, of the station scene from "Once Upon a Time in the West" at "Bella Arp". to the nighttime Ride through the Hollywood Hills in David Lynch's »Mullholland Drive«, at »Kusine Limusene« and at »Lonely Jupiter« comes to mind a Rutger Hauer's »Tears in the rain« monologue from »Blade Runner«. It is music that needs no text and no voice, which finds in the entanglement of Roberto Di Gioia's wistful play and Peter Kruder's visionary understanding of sound a content depth and richness that would have been automatically limited by additional levels. The highly melodic, talking piano of Roberto Di Gioia corresponds in a way with the electronica of Peter Kruder, which makes one think of the psychedelic of the seventies and the great neutoners, in their genuine handling of repetition and dynamics is "-------" free of academic considerations and unencumbered by any contradicted Receptututual.
