Science Education: Visions of the Future

Ben Akpan Editor Science Education: Visions of the Future This book, Science Education: Visions of the Future, takes a long-term view of science education over the next fifty years. In 50 years’ time, the children born now will be in their middle-age and will therefore be active players in science and allied careers and professions. It is, therefore, an auspicious time for science educators to use the various indices that we currently have – economic, scientific, social and educational – to explore the likely scenarios for science education by 2070. This 31-chapter book has done just that. Each chapter has explored the past and current trends of its subject matter and has made projections on the likely situation 50 years hence. With such visions, the authors have equally provided suggestions, recommendations and, in some cases, road maps in terms of what action(s) should be carried out going forward, in order to lay the required foundations in aid of the anticipated scenario. The chapters in the book are grouped into five sections: nature of science education; learning science; resources and requirements for science education; science education and the world at large; and evaluation and inclusiveness in science education. This book is suitable for use by policy-makers, researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students in science education, as well as their teachers.
