Description

For references on suggested colours please check profile pictures or visit Italeri. Historical Period: Vietnam War Includes Super Decals for 4 versions: U.S. Air Force and South Vietnam Air Force. The Fairchild C-119 heavy transport aircraft powered by two radial engines was used by the U.S. Air Force as the basis for conversion "flying gunship". These particular conversions were built in a limited number for use against support roads and Vietcong troop concentrations during the Vietnam War. The AC-119K version, armed with 2 x 20mm guns and 4 x 7.62mm machine guns, was very successful in night raids against trucks. Another version, the AC-119G type, differed in lighter armament. These planes had 2 additional jet engines to facilitate take-off from natural runways when loaded with ammunition. With the entry into service of the more powerful AC-130H these airplanes were progressively ceded to the South Vietnam Air Forces who used them until the fall of the Saigon government.
