Description

This box with 7 CDs collates the original five volumes (including the original booklets), of the Mozart String Quartet recordings by the Armida Quartett, released between 2016 and 2022. Mozart's string quartet output can be easily divided into two groups: on the one hand, the thirteen early works written by a teenager, and the ten "celebrated" Viennese masterpieces on the other. Mozart's early string quartets are brimming with endless variety of imagination, with the pleasure of experimenting, and the sheer joy of music- making; meanwhile, each movement of the "ten celebrated quartets" (Alfred Einstein) is a unique masterpiece in its own right. "high quality - indeed gutsy - performances of this cycle of imaginative works" - BBC Music Magazine "....the confidence and accuracy they bring to their performances make this another enticing instalment in their continuing quartet cycle" (Vol. IV) Gramophone March 2022 ARMIDA QUARTETT: Martin Funda Violin Johanna Staemmler Violin Teresa Schwamm Viola Peter-Philipp Staemmler Cello
