Without the pioneering instruments of the Hohner Orchestra series, traditional harmonica ensembles would be simply unthinkable. Hohner invented and developed these highly special instruments only to give the emerging ensembles the bass and chord accompaniment they needed to play sophisticated arrangements. Today, we work closely with international top players to keep the design and construction always modern, setting new standards in Hohner's commitment to the highest quality. In almost every type of music, the bass is the foundation on which everything is built. This applies to harmonica ensembles as much as to all others. It's not easy to build a reed instrument that delivers the fast response and volume needed in a group even in deep registers - our professional bass harmonicas can do that. A two-piece construction, held together with hinges, equipped with two reeds per channel that lie exactly one octave apart and deliver a bold, powerful sound. The deeper pairs are always on the inside to ensure even microphoning and accentuate the bass. Just like the Chord 48, this model has been redesigned to optimize volume, handling and maintenance. The mouthpiece is integrated into the acrylic flange body for better airtightness and the fully screwed construction makes maintenance easier. The Bass 58 is the smaller of our two bass models, with a range of E - e' (E2 - E4) and is ideal for all harmonica ensembles.
