Tools, Tips & Tricks for the Marine Canvas Fabricator: New and Improved

You heard the expression a picture is worth a thousand words, well this book has over 1,750 color pictures to illustrate and to get the point across, from my 26 years of accumulating, traveling the globe to bring you ideas from the 2,000 marine canvas fabricators that I have had the opportunity to meet. Having attended 65 different MFA, NECPA, CMCFA, IFAI Expo, Zone 4, I realized the one thing at each of these events the most powerful, popular, and must-see presentation was Tools, Tips and Tricks, as well as shop tours. Shop tours was where we as attendees would go into different local shops to see how they are set up many of us learn new ways to layout our shops and ways that just did not pertain to our individual shops. I set out a few years ago taking pictures, making notes of every tool, tip, or trick I could and compiling this into a book for future generations of marine canvas & upholstery people. Many of us attend these shows and try and remember the tip or trick that we can use currently and then some are forgotten, so I wanted to capture these ideas. The past few years some of us have retired, passed on, changed careers. They say when a great movie is produced there is a lot of footage left on the editing room floor, well here is the same to tell you the truth I have forgotten or not included several tips because of miss placed notes and not so good photographs. After all it has been and accumulation of 26 years in the making. What I have here in this book is not just my tools, tips, & tricks, but a combination from the many hundreds of people that I have encounter, without the input and creative ways that others have come up with you would not be reading this book, I do have to let you know that some information that has been shared with me thru the years, cannot be shared with anyone by me, it was kind of an agreement we made when tips where shared. But I have included many Tools, Tips, & Tricks in this publication. The title of this book was never, ever going to be called “The Complete Guide to Tools, Tips and Tricks” as it can never be a complete guide. This is not a book designed to be read cover to cover (some of you will read it cover to cover you know who you are) but use this book by going to the specific chapter or page. I have included a list of people and shops by name that have contributed to this books content, unfortunately someone will be left out because I may not know who came up with the tool, tip, or trick. I wholeheartedly say I am sorry for not including them. I don’t pretend to be the smartest guy in the marine canvas business, but I think I am the best sponge in the marine canvas industry I make it a point to soak up all the good ideas I can. When I don’t understand someone or something I ask for clarification so that I am better informed, and that I can better understand you or the presenter. Some track-to-track tips you can use. A multitude of pictures of how others set up their workbench, trucks and sewing area of their shop. Patterning tips all backup with pictures to show the process.
