Homeschooling vs. Public Schooling: What the Research Shows

Two types of schooling systems, both trying to meet the same educational objectives. How do they fare? One may point out, “I know a homeschooled child who is an educational disaster.” Or a parent might say, “This is the damage the public school system did to my child.” One might know an exceptional child who came through either type of schooling, but individual successes or failures do not describe the system as a whole. In this book I cover research studies that have observed both groups. Without getting into the technical language researchers use, this book dives into the results they have discovered about the two schooling systems. Which structure seems to do a better job of educating children in the three Rs? In which of the two settings are children better socialized? Does either system make a greater impact on the unity of the family? Which environment provides better health and safety? Which of the two best develops godly attributes into adulthood? What the studies have indicated overall are impressive results for homeschoolers in education, socialization, family life, health and safety, and spiritual development. However, there are some areas in which public schools have outperformed homeschoolers. So why would parents want to read this book? Some may read it to determine if homeschooling would best meet the needs of their children. Others may want to know how to respond to those who oppose homeschooling. Also, parents can learn what to avoid and what to latch on to for homeschooling their own children.
