Description
Erynn Krasovic PA-C and David Bennett MD identified a need for a book in the pediatric orthopedic literature to illustrate the innate ability of pediatric fractures to heal and remodel over time. To that end, they published their first copy of Fracture Healing in Children: A Review of Pediatric Osseous Modeling and Remodeling in August 2022. Fracture Healing in Children became an international success allowing orthopedic surgeons and practitioners from around the globe to help expand the utilization of this resource. The second edition now contains over 130 radiographs of fractures in children ranging from 0-18 years old. This has nearly doubled the overall radiographic examples from the first edition, increased exposure for particularly hand and foot, and includes an entirely new section for elbow radiographs. The expansion of more variety of fracture patterns and a wider spread of patients ages will provide a more direct comparison for parent education. The provider now should be able to easily locate a radiographic example that very closely resembles their patient’s particular age and fracture pattern. This will serve to increase parent and patient confidence in the success of remodeling. Designed to facilitate consultations with parents who seek reassurance that their child’s displaced fracture will heal, Fracture Healing in Children is a visual aid and quick confidence-booster for worried parents. Thoughtfully assembled to significantly reduce consultation time and greatly increase patient confidence in the care team. Not only is this book a must have in any orthopedic practitioner’s office, this is also an educational book great for residents or medical students who wish to know more about the pathophysiology of fracture healing, pediatric anatomy, and physis anatomy/physiology. In addition, this will also serve as a useful reference book for pediatricians and other providers who would like to learn more about pediatric fractures.
