Seit 30 Jahren schreibt der Kölner Musikgeschichte als einziger Europäer, der weltweit als authentischer Reggae-Musiker Erfolge feiert. Mit dem neuen Studio-Album „Mad World“ manifestiert er einen weiteren Meilenstein, der ihn zurück zu seinen musikalischen Wurzeln und gleichzeitig sein Lebenswerk weiter nach vorne bringt. Mit „Mad World“ knüpft er da an, wo einst seine „Journey to Jah“ begann und richtet sich wieder an eine globale Audience. „Englisch spricht Menschen auf der ganzen Welt an und die Message in meiner Musik und in meinen Songs ist auch universal. Deshalb war es für mich nur logisch, wieder auf Englisch weiterzumachen“. „Mad World“ als Albumtitel beschreibt den aus der Sicht des Beobachters immer chaotischeren Zustand unserer Gesellschaft. Gentleman kann als Künstler und Musiker nicht neutral oder unpolitisch sein, sondern sieht es als seine Aufgabe an, Probleme zu benennen und Auswege zu bieten. „Reggae hat seinen rebellischen Charakter nie verloren, es ist Teil seiner DNS, unbequeme Dinge anzusprechen – und sie gleichzeitig mit der Hoffnung zu versehen, dass man sie überwinden kann.“ Selbstbestimmtheit und Zuversicht waren schon immer der für ihn relevante Kern der Philosophie des Reggaes. Das Album „Mad World“ entstand in einer Phase in Gentlemans Leben, in der er dem schnellen und gleichzeitig oberflächlichen Leben der Großstadt entfloh und sich inmitten der inspirierenden Landschaft Mallorcas neu situierte: Organic Food, self-sustainable Lifestyle, weniger digitale Ablenkung, mehr natürliche Eindrücke bestimmen nun seinen Alltag. Diese Reduktion der Komplexität spiegelt sich in den Songs wider: Die Lösungen für eine immer komplizierter werdende Welt liegen in der Einfachheit. Und im Glauben daran, dass letzten Endes das Gute doch triumphieren wird – sei es im großen Ganzen oder im Kleinen, Persönlichen.
