With the transition to 12-speed MTB drives, Shimano has reintroduced the Micro Spline standard. It allows the use of the smallest 10 tooth sprocket and is compatible with Shimano 12-speed MTB cassettes and some third-party bikes. Shimano licensed the use of Micro Spline technology to other manufacturers of rear hubs or cassettes. This process ensures high quality, but ensures a relatively small number of offers in the introduction phase of new technology.
