TiCN coating is an evolution of TiN: in practice Carbon is used as an interstitial element of the TiN grating; this tensions the coating greatly increasing its hardness. The TiCN coating produced is characterized by a particular graduation of the percentage of Carbon present in the layer, designed to obtain excellent toughness while preserving the peculiar hardness of this coating. The presence of Carbon allows a reduction in the friction coefficient, reduces the chemical affinity of the coating to materials and increases the resistance to corrosion phenomena. The presence of Carbon allows the effective use of TiCN until the temperature of use reaches, even locally, 450°C.
