Description

In February 2001, the Berlin Philharmonic and Claudio Abbado were guests with all Beethoven symphonies at the Accademia onale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. The success was overwhelming: after each performance there were standing ovations, and the press spoke of star-hours of music. For decades, Claudio Abbado has repeatedly engaged intensively with Beethoven's music to decipher her laws. Starting point for these performances was the new critical note edition by Jonathan Del Mar. New to Abbado's Beethoven interpretations in Rome was the renunciation of the orchestra's usual large string cast. Faster tempi than previous performances with compelling tempo relations between the individual sentences are as well to register as exciting dramatic developments and sensitive lyrical cantilenas Special feature: As a special service, these discs offer recordings of the so-called conductor camera at the third, fifth, sixth and seventh symphony. She shows the maestro from the front as his musicians experience it The editon includes the 26-minute interview "Abbado on Beethoven" Berliner Philharmoniker Claudio Abbado Karita Mattila soprano Violeta Urmana mezzo-soprano Thomas Moser tenor Eike Wilm Schulte baritoneSwedish Radio Choir Eric Ericson Chamber Choir
