Description

The Magische Kraken' is the second album by the Hamburg Spinners, a contemporary mod jazz quartet from Hamburg. The quartet consists of Arsten 'Erobique' Meyer (including soundtrack to The Crime Scene Cleaner) on the Hammond B-3 organ, Dennis Rux (RHONDA, TRASHMONKEYS) on the guitar, David Nesselhauff (Diazpora) on the bass and Lucas Kochbeck on drums. Appears as vinyl LP on ASEXY RECORDS. 'The Magic Kraken' was recorded live on two weekends in April 2021 in the Hamburg Yeah!-Yeah!-Yeah! studios. The chemistry in the band immediately tuned after a short year (Covid) break and so the ideas accumulated by the musicians meanwhile were concretized, arranged and implemented in a truly democratic process. The will to collective play - without moving too far away from the original rudimentary and reduced arrangements was always in the air. Although there are certain limits to the sound of a Hammond organ quartet, the creativity was given space to overcome these boundaries - in short: the music could and can spread like the arms of an octopus. Reminiscences of songs broken down to the essentials by Timmy Thomas or Phoenix do not accidentally come to mind when listening to the new Hamburg Spinners album. Last but not least -never change a winning team: Carsten 'Erobique' Meyer's soulful Hammond B3 organ is carried by Dennis Rux' warm and gripping guitar sound, David Nesselhauf's dynamic bass lines, and Lucas Kochbeck's precise and tightest drum playing.
