Description

Mercedes-Benz 170V & 170S W136 – The Cars That Rebuilt the Brand (2026 Edition) The Mercedes 170V (W136) was more than just a car, it was the backbone of Daimler-Benz during its most challenging times. Introduced in 1936, it ensured the company’s survival through the 1930s. After World War II, the 170V returned as a pillar of reconstruction, cementing Mercedes-Benz's reputation for building durable, world-class automobiles. From this legendary foundation arose the 170S, a synonym for luxury, elegance, and technical refinement. This book, fully revised and expanded by 20 pages, tells the complete story of these iconic models, from the first design sketches to the rarest coachbuilt bodies. With deep technical insights and over 160 new color photographs, it is the definitive reference for enthusiasts and collectors. A German edition is also available here on Amazon. Inside this book, you will discover: The Evolution of the 170V: Its 1936 debut and its pivotal role in the history of Daimler-Benz. A Wealth of Variants: From military and police versions to the post-war Va, Vb, and diesel models, including the 170Da OTP and coachbuilt versions for commercial and private use. Engineering Excellence: Detailed look at engines, chassis, safety, and innovation. The 170S Legacy: The history of the Sb, S-V, and rare diesel versions. Pure Elegance: The stunning Cabriolets and a one-of-a-kind Coupe. Historical Archives: Insights into sales brochures, including the link to Auto Union/Audi. Technical Mastery: Explanation of chassis numbers and data cards, plus detailed specifications. Stunning Visuals: Over 160 high-quality color photos with a focus on authentic details. Why this book is a collector's essential: Whether you are an owner, a restorer, or a classic car fan, this volume provides the expert knowledge and fascinating imagery needed to appreciate these milestones of automotive history.
