The best way to store clean footwear is at room temperature with a stretcher. Never store dirty shoes. Before the first use, it is best to give boots and shoes a waterproofing treatment including laces and the whole tongue. Clean surfaces of boots and shoes should be treated with a waterproofing agent for synthetic materials. There are many different waterproofing agents and waxes on the market for different types of footwear and applications. Ask your dealer with tips and instructions for the specific boot or shoe you purchased. Tip: Wear pure wool or wool / synthetic blend socks for optimal foot temperature. Socks made of this type of material help maintain a good temperature in the feet in the shoes as they let moisture through much better than cotton. Moisture can help create chafing, cold feet and, in extreme cases, even athlete's foot.
