The Microchip Harmony development environment has evolved to version 3 (Hv3) that accommodates PIC and ATMEL chips. The previous versions (Hv1 and Hv2) are no longer recommended for new projects and are not being updated by Microchip. The purpose of this book is to help Harmony users climb the steep learning curve so they can use Harmony v3 to develop reliable and reproducible applications on both PIC32 and Cortex devices. This book uses the SAM E70 XPlained Ultra board for all of its example projects. The "twin" to this book (also available on Amazon) uses the Curiosity 2.0 PIC MZ EF board for the same example projects.In two of my earlier books I showed how to use Harmony v2 (and its libraries) for PICMX and PICMZ devices. Now that Hv2 is obsolete, those two books are no longer available, but my latest two books expand the example projects and the associated documentation to explain the “how” and “why” of Harmony v3 when using the USB, TCP/IP, FreeRTOS, and wolfSSL libraries. Part 1 of this book is oriented towards people new to Harmony, and those with Hv2 experience that want to learn how to use Hv3. Part 2 develops meaningful examples with step-by-step instructions to create complex projects using the TCP/IP, USB, wolfSSL, and FreeRTOS libraries. All of the examples are developed from the bottom-up using multiple, independent state machines that can be added or deleted for other custom applications. Although Harmony and the related toolset are free, there is a significant human cost to learn how to use the tools. I believe that anyone following the steps and examples in this book will save weeks of development time when starting or switching to Hv3.
