The Legends of Fuzz series is a collection of the most historical, rare and sought-after tours in the world. At JHS, Fuzz pedals have been in our range for over ten years. We designed original tracks, replica classics, and we saw the trend of fuzz popularity comes and goes. The Legends of Fuzz series is our tribute to the most important fuzz tracks ever made. This is our way of ensuring that the stories of these effects live in the music you are going to make. From the first days of fuzz in the London scene of the mid-60s to the Soviet military factories of the '90s that brought the Big Muff back to life, Fuzz tells a story, and this story includes guitarists just like you. There's nothing more primitive than plugging your guitar into a vintage fuzz circuit; it's raw, untamed and so pure that it pushes the boundaries of what your instrument can do. Plug into a fuzz and plug in sixty years of beautifully broken sound. In 1969, Electro Harmonix released the first "triangle" version of the legendary Big Muff fuzz. Throughout the 1970s we see various new revisions of this famous circuit like the V2 "Rams Head" (1973), V3 "Pi" (1977), V4 "Op Amp" (1978), but in 1984 everything stopped. Electro Harmonix filed its second bankruptcy, closed its doors, and the powerful Big Muff disappeared for nearly a decade. In the early 90s, Mike Matthews noticed that his Electro Harmonix pedals from the 1970s were selling at vintage/rare prices. In 1991, he concluded a manufacturing agreement with a former Soviet manufacturing company in St. Petersburg and brought the Big Muff back to life. This new version was technically the 7th version of the famous Big Muff, but since Mike no longer owned his old brands, he labeled it Sovtek's "Mike Matthews Red Army Overdrive". This is the very first Russian-made Big Muff ever produced and probably the rarest of all time. Made only in small numbers from 1991 to 1992, there are still very few examples, making this almost impossible to find. She shares characteristics with the famous Sovtek version "Civil War" (late 1992), but it stands alone. Warmer, clearer, and more defined than any large Soviet sleeve that followed, the Red Army offers a unique flavor of a very familiar effect. The Crimson is an exact replica of my own Red Army Overdrive, allowing you to own a unique part of the fuzz story. Controls are volume, tone and distortion. Volume sets the overall output level of the effect, increase and things get stronger. The tone allows you to swipe between light and dark tones so the Crimson works well with a range of amplifiers and guitars. Distortion is distortion control; the more you turn it clockwise, the more you create. On the side you will see a "Mode" button that allows you to access a "JHS" mode never before. Press this button for a medium frequency boost that forces your sound through the mix.
