This British Telecome to RJ 11 telephone extension cable molded connections improves durability and strength reducing the risk of cable and connector separation. If you have a 2 pin socket will work fine with a 4 pin cable (two pins will just be unused) but a 4 pin socket will not work with a 2-pin cable.

CROSSOVER – The important thing to be aware of with these cables is the difference between straight and crossover - Sky modems generally use crossover cables, but some others require straight ones. When you connect two devices of different types together, you use a straight through cable. When you connect two devices of the same type together, you use a crossover cable.
