Description

Born in Moscow in 1952, Vladimir Feltsman was a successful Soviet pianist in the 1970s. When he applied for an exit in 1979, he was practically banned from performing. His first recording of CBS Masterworks took place at the US Embassy in Moscow. Chopin's 24 Preludes became his first recording for his new exclusive contract with CBS Masterworks. Feltsman was able to immigrate to the USA for a few years, followed by highly acclaimed concerts at Carnegie Hall and other recordings: thoughtful Liszt, prospective Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov, but his very special love was for the German repertoire, so there are also insistent Schubert interpretations on these eight CDs to find.
