In 1884 Karl Elsener opened his Cantelleria laboratory in Ibach, in the municipality of Teslet. In those years Switzerland was still one of the poorest countries in Europe. In his youth, Karl Elsener committed himself to fighting poverty and unemployment in the Swiss basin, creating jobs and helping to decrease the flow of emigration. In 1891 he provided for the first time the multipurpose of the soldier to the Swiss army. Then he continued until he developed, in 1897, the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife, today the legendary Swiss Army Knife, laying the foundations for a flourishing company capable of playing a role in the world's limelight, then, the spirit of solidarity, the deep roots In the region and the great commitment to solid values they have given shape to Victorinox's corporate philosophy.
