Description

This delicious vintage from the Lemorton family is one of the last four vintages available from the domain which is located in Mantilly, near Domfront, in the Orne region of France and the Domfrontais region of Calvados. The soil is mainly composed of clay and limestone there, which is perfect for the strong, large and deep roots of pear trees. The Calvados Domfrontais AOC produced by the Lemorton family since five generation is made from 70 % of pears and 30 % of apples grown on their 9-acre property. The pears are gathered from tall standard pear trees which can reach 20 meters high. This percentage of pears gives the Calvados Domfrontais from Lemorton a lighter colour compared to the Calvados Pays d'Auge, but also a more elegant and feminine taste. Lemorton's production is small. They distill the pear and apple cider after aging it for 11 months in oak barrels. Distillation takes place in their smallish single-distillation alembic once a year. The clear distillate then goes into 30 years old barrels made from neutral wood, so that you get the full and refined flavours from the fruits.
