Groovy instrumentals, raucous songs, intimate ballads and 17-hippiefied versions of tunes by Frank Zappa, Bill Laswell, Mulatu Astatqé and The Allman Brothers... to listen to this band is to witness a veritable battle of Beasts! The 17 HIPPIES are definably one of Germany's most influential world music bands; although through their musical strengths and love of experimentation they burst out beyond the boundaries of the genre. For the first time in almost 20 years of the band's recording history, each track features a guest musician: Tunji Beyer (Sydney), Aly Keita (Abidjan), Suleyman Celik (Berlin) and Elyas Khan (New York) among others. Recorded mostly live, an outstanding characteristic of BIESTER is its loyalty to an analogue sound. Intimate melodies are captured by the multi-faceted sounds of acoustic instruments, from catchy brass to swooning string sections.
