Product Description
Super wide-angle zoom lenses are ideal for taking pictures of sweeping landscapes and striking images with enhanced perspective. For medium to high level users looking for a wider minimum focal length than traditional wide-angle zoom lenses, the SEL-1018 is the ideal choice. Note: "35mm equivalent focal length (APS-C)" and "viewing angle (APS-C)" are equipped with interchangeable lens digital cameras with APS-C image sensors. This super wide-angle zoom lens is perfect for taking pictures of sweeping landscapes and striking images with enhanced perspective. Features include a constant maximum aperture of F4 and integrated optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization. When you change your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources will appear blurry. This "bokeh" effect of blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides that produce unappealing polygonal shaped defocused light points. α lenses overcome this problem with a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular, from its wide-open setting to closing by 2 aperture stops. A smoother, more natural defocusing can be achieved. As focal lengths become longer, conventional optical glass lenses have difficulty with chromatic aberration, and as a result, images suffer from lower contrast, lower colour quality and lower resolution. ED glass dramatically reduces chromatic aberration in the telephoto range and provides excellent contrast across the entire image, even at large aperture settings. Super ED glass provides enhanced compensation for chromatic aberration. The aspherical lens design drastically reduces spherical aberration while reducing the size and weight of the lens. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected onto the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points of conventional spherical lenses that affect image quality on large aperture lenses. Specially shaped "aspherical" elements near the membrane restore the orientation of light rays at the image plane, maintain high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used elsewhere in the optical path to reduce distortion. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements needed in the lens, thus reducing the overall size and weight. Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements are an evolved variant, featuring an extremely high thickness ratio between the center and periphery. AA elements are extremely difficult to manufacture, relying on the most advanced molding technology to consistently and accurately achieve the required shape and surface accuracy, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality. The distance sensor plays an important role in ADI flash measurement, which provides a high-precision flash measurement that is not affected by the reflection of subjects or backgrounds. The distance sensor is a lens component that directly detects the position of the focusing mechanism and sends a signal to the CPU to measure the distance to the subject. During flash photography, this data is very useful for calculating how much flash power is appropriate to the scene. Gyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any possible image blur. The use of precise, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as still images. Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the total length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocus and a short minimum focusing distance. Besides, the filter thread on the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient when you use a polarizing filter. 2012 Sony Electronics All Rights Reserved.
