Its only function is to keep dirt, sand, or splashes away from the front lens. The extremely clear Schott glass has a MRC Nano technology multi coating. This new coating is an improved version of the MRC technology used by B+W. The MRC coating is first and foremost a broadband anti-reflection coating, improving image quality. But MRC by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent.The MRC Nano layer has been strengthened to help resist damage to the glass while a hydrophobic coating means that resistance to dirt is increased and filter cleaning is easy . XS-PRO Nano filters feature an extremely thin filter mount to help reduce the chance of vignetting.Despite the thin construction the mount has a front thread so further accessories such as additional filters, lens hoods or snap-in lens caps can be fitted.
