Manufacturer's Description Neutral density filters, or grey filters, are used if too much light restricts creative possibilities. They reduce the light in accordance with their density; they therefore allow longer exposure times or more widely opened apertures.With a light intensity reduction of ten f-stops, this B+W Neutral Density Filter has a slightly stronger warm tone than the ND 106. Its principal field of application is the observation and documentation of industrial processes with extreme brightness, such as steel furnaces, incinerators, glowing filaments in halogen- and other bulbs. It is also used in video aplications to reduce depth of field.The filter factor is 1000x. The extremely clear Schott glass has a MRC multi coating. The MRC coating is first and foremost a broadband anti-reflection coating, improving image quality. Light can bounce off the camera sensor, reflecting back on to the inside of the filter and then bouncing back on to the sensor - causing ‘ghost’ images.When you consider that many exposures with ND filters will be over one minute, MRC coating can have a dramatic effect on the finished image quality.But MRC by B+W is not only an extraordinarily effective multiple layer coating, it is also harder than glass, so that it protects filters from scratches (for instance when cleaning the filters), and it is also water and dirt repellent.
