In 1964, Finnish designer Oiva Toikka designed the world-famous Kastehelmi plates for iittala. The Kastehelmi range is a prime example of the fact that timeless design is permanently important. Kastehelmi, the Finnish word for dewdrops, refers to the circular domes in pressed glass. It is reminiscent of the dew drops in the morning sun that sparkle like a row of beads on the grass. Thanks to the classic design, the robust plates are not only suitable for everyday use, but also very wonderful for festive occasions. The plates are often used individually, because they can be perfectly combined with a porcelain service. As this is dyed glass, the colour will remain for years to come, even if the plates are cleaned in the dishwasher. The Finnish company iittala relies on a furnishing design that lasts a lifetime.
