For extreme performance, racing engines are pushed to the limit - with very high revs and/or boost pressure. A particular challenge for the spark plugs too: The temperatures, pressure and vibrations in the combustion chamber are so high that conventional ground electrodes could break off or melt. This is why racing spark plugs have specially developed earth electrodes. The most extreme design is the ring-shaped earth electrode, to which the spark jumps from the centre electrode. The heat generated must be reliably dissipated. The heat values for racing spark plugs are often higher than for other spark plugs. NGK Racing spark plugs have different heat values (some in 0.5 increments), so that spark plugs with the optimum heat value are available for every requirement. Please note: For NGK spark plugs, the colder the spark plug, the higher the specified index. Always select the correct type and heat range for the application. If in doubt, always select a higher heat value number (= colder plug!). Suitability testing may be required. Note: NGK Racing spark plugs are designed for racing engines or for competition use. Unless otherwise specified in Niterra catalogues, use in road engines is not recommended, as racing spark plugs do not focus on durability or protection against sooting – essential requirements for road engines.
