Description The rich tradition history of onion pattern dates back to the ancient China, the country where porcelain originates in. Floral motifs in underglaze painting on the finest, white porcelain can be found there already in the Ming period (1368-1644). The asymmetric arrangement of the different motifs, which emanated from the Japanese Kakimon painting in Arita, can be rediscovered, for example, in the aster-bamboo bouquet of the onion pattern. European artists of the 18th century enthusiastically took up these motifs in the style of the China fashion from that time and created independent décors that have lost nothing of their fascination to this day. As a result, around the year 1739, the famous onion pattern has been created. It has been named "blue onion pattern" by disregarding the real motif, as in fact, there are no onions in this décor, but pomegranates, peaches, peonies and an aster-bamboo bouquet. The white form of the Meissner porcelain factory C. Teichert, which dates back to a design from 1728, was taken over in 1926 by Lorenz Hutschenreuther, and introduced to the market as Maria Theresa. Also from C. Teichert comes "blue onion pattern", which is manufactured by Hutschenreuther since 1930. Even today, pure cobalt colour is used, and there is still a lot of craftsmanship, i.e. painting of staffages, lid buttons, plate edges and cupboards. The fine design of details is a distinguishing feature of the Hutschenreuther's blue onion pattern. The design meets the requirements of a modern household and is of course dishwasher- and microwave-safe. This tradition has been continued until today, the baroque blue onion pattern is still the most successful and extensive series of the Hutschenreuther brand, and always finds its enthusiasts for many table experiences around the day.
