The bird feeder holds 1.4 litres of bird seeds, whether it's black oil sunflower seeds (a good all-round bird food) or other seed mixtures specific to your area. The squirrel proof bird feeder attracts a variety of clinging and seated birds, including the American goldfinches, the chicks, the indigo bunting and the purple finches. The unit features a special Nyjer/Mix feeder for high quality performance, and its innovative design means eight birds can feed at the same time. Openings in the wire hood align with seed openings and provide birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs on the feeder, its weight automatically forces the cover down, closing access to the seed openings. All squirrels and many large birds are blocked from access to the food, but are not harmed in any way. Spring mechanism is factory calibrated to close at 4 ounces (115g). The smaller red squirrels, as well as the larger grey squirrels, are excluded in this setting. The bird feeder features a negative handle tube that prevents squirrels from grabbing the wire hanger with their hind legs and hanging next to the feeder, defeating the locking mechanism. The bottom of the yellow center post cap marks the maximum seed level. If you exceed this marking, the closing of the cover cloth is prevented. Do not fill beyond this marking. The bird feeder easily hangs with a wall mount, extension hook or branch hook (sold separately). The Squirrel Buster Finch can be disassembled for convenient filling and easy to clean by hand.
