Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight Plain Edge Drop Point Fixed Blade Knife Bill Moran is recognized as the grandfather of American custom knife making and the founding father of the American Blade smith Society. He started pounding steel, making knives more than fifty years ago. If you're lucky enough to find a custom-made Moran to buy, expect to shell out five-figures, minimum. His work and designs are that revered. Spyderco is privileged to offer a production fixed-blade collaboration patterned in Bill Moran's ageless tradition. We've made it available in two distinct blade shapes. The FB02 (pictured) has a drop-point shape while the FB01 (see related item below) has an upswept Bowie-style blade. Both blades are flat-ground VG-10 and carry Bill's signature. They are tapered, starting thick where the blade joins the handle, thinning down the spine to a fine, uniformly ground tip. In the hand the knife conveys a unique feeling of balance, called by some a sweet spot. The sweet spot is due to the blade and handle being comparable in weight. This balance transfers into a feeling of steady control over the cutting edge. The FRN handle three-dimensionally fills out the palm and is inlayed with a panel of non-sliding Craton. Highly recommended for hunting and camping both models come in a moulded Bolt Aron sheath with multi-position G-Clip fastening system. Drop-point Blade A design popularised by the hunting knives of the late Bob Loveless. The spine of the blade follows a subtle convex arc to the point. Full Flat-ground blade A blade ground with flat bevels that extend from the spine all the way to the cutting edge. This grind reduces drag during cutting and decreases overall weight. VG-10 Stainless Steel Sometimes known as V-Kin-10, VG-10 is a cutlery grade stainless steel produced in Japan. Due to this being produced in Japan almost all VG-10 steel knife blades are manufactured in Japan. Plain Edge Blade A sharpened edge with no serrations or teeth, sometimes referred to as a "smooth" edge. Fibreglass Reinforced Nylon (FRN) Handle A tough, chemical and heat-resistant material that is extremely lightweight and versatile. An injection-moulded co-polyester reinforced with glass fibre, it is unique in that it can be made translucent or transparent and tinted with various colours. Craton Rubber Inserts A high-performance elastomer manufactured by Craton Polymers used as a synthetic replacement for rubber. Craton provides the flexibility, high traction, and sealing abilities of natural rubber, but with increased resistance to heat, weathering and chemicals.
