Description

The Starrett 230FL Series Outer Micrometer features an inch vernier scale to take accurate measurements of the outer diameter (DE), and a friction thimble mechanism for even pressure when adjusting. The scale of the vernier on the thimble and sleeve is graduated to 0.01 inches. The micrometer is made of high quality tool steel with a satin chrome finish that resists rust and glare. The spindle and anvil have micro-lapped measuring faces for precision and are fitted with a carbide tip for wear resistance. A knurled ring type locking nut helps provide a secure locking of the measurement position. Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements result in large rotations of the screw which can then be read from a scale or dial. Micrometers are generally used in manufacturing, machining and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometers: exterior, interior and depth. Outside micrometers can also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outer diameter of an object. Inner micrometers are usually used to measure the inner diameter, such as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and test equipment, and saw blade products. The company was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Athol, MA.
