Manufacturer's Description The B+W 092 has become a popular filter for IR photography with digital SLR cameras. This nearly opaque filter looks dark purplish when held in front of a light source and blocks the visible spectrum up to 650 nm. It passes only 50% of the radiation just below 700 nm and from 730 nm to 2000 nm, transmission is greater than 90%. As the sensitization of IR films barely extends beyond 1000 nm, the red portion that is transmitted still makes a relevant contribution to the exposure. Effectiveness and filter factor are largely film and light dependent and individual testing is recommended. B+W filters are made with Schott glass which guarantees the very highest glass quality. Good quality cameras and lenses are a major investment and at B+W we believe that if you should have the best quality filters. There’s no point in buying an expensive, optically superior lens, only to put a piece of inferior glass over the front of it! B+W filters all feature brass mounts, designed to fix the high-quality filter glass in position “for life”. This is exactly the gap that the B+W 092 infrared filter 695 and B+W 093 infrared filter 630 take advantage of when the visible light is blocked. The selection of the image section and the infrared-related focusing are done before screwing on the filter, as control in the viewfinder or on the LCD is not possible with the infrared filter attached. In the image program, IR photos are optimised: contrast automatically or increased in histogram. Convert a colour image to SW or "play" with individual colour channels, the red channel remains at maximum. Infrared photography always has an experimental character.
