The book detailed how climate change is wreaking havoc worldwide and showed that humanity is on track to pass the 1.5-degree-Celsius threshold, beyond which climate impacts become more severe and potentially irreversible. The energy sector is the source of close to three-quarters of greenhouse gas emissions today and holds the key to averting the worst effects of climate change. With discovery of new fossil fuel frontiers and many nation-states joining the league of fossil fuel endowed enclaves, to the increased demand and hike in energy prices brought about by increased population and industrial activities, to the disruption of fossil fuel supply chain brought about by Russia-Ukraine war and Convid-19 global lock-down, it appears that reliance on fossil fuel might not fizzle soonest. The book concluded that the global temperature will continue to rise to a point of becoming a big challenge to the detriment of the survival and stability of the ecosystem, so long as there is no ‘overarching authority’ in the international arena that would compel nation-states to slow down their activities associated with carbon emission and key into the much-preached transition to green economy cum renewable energy. Thus, the book is a clarion call to massively fast-track climate efforts by every country and every sector. It proposes the need to bring global emissions to net zero, accelerating the coal phase-out, ending deforestation and promoting reforestation, switching to electric vehicles and investing in renewable such as in solar and wind energy, investing in decent jobs; no bail-outs for polluting companies; abandoning fossil fuel subsidies; and increasing international cooperation.
