Clinical Gynaecological Oncology for Low- and Middle-Income Countries was written from the perspective of an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist who has managed many different gynaecological cancers in low-resource settings. The book takes a comprehensive look at the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of common gynaecological tumours and cancers, ranging from gestational trophoblastic tumours and uterine fibroids to the highly aggressive serous epithelial carcinomas of the ovary. The preinvasive lesions of the vulva, vagina, cervix and endometrium are described in detail, as are the morphological characteristics and important molecular profiles that have prognostic significance. The role of the human papilloma virus (HPV) in gynaecological cancer is addressed. The roles of cancer screening and HPV vaccines and their potential impact on gynaecological cancer in LMICs are emphasized. The book looks at the many management options for the different tumour types, describes the common challenges faced in different clinical contexts, and explores ways of navigating them with limited resources. The different chemotherapy regimens, including options for chemotherapy-resistant advanced or recurrent cancers are discussed. Immunotherapy, an exciting new area of gynaecological cancer therapy is also discussed. Other important areas addressed in the book include the challenges of cancer diagnosis and management in pregnant women, oncofertility care for pre-adolescent, adolescent and young cancer patients, and sexual and reproductive health in cancer survivors. The book is intended for training undergraduate and postgraduate obstetrics, gynaecology & gynaecological oncology students and practicing gynaecologists and gynaecological oncologists.
