He is a doctoral tutor and obtained doctor’s degree for Disaster Prevention and Reduction Engineering and Protective Engineering in Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration in 1990. He is a "Cheung Kong Scholar" awarded by the Administration of Education of China, also been supported by the National Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholar, been awarded the honor of " Outstanding Scientist in China", is one of the talents introduced by “ The New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project” in China. He is now vice-president of Beijing University of Technology, Advisory Consultant of Science Departments and head of the Evaluating Committee for Civil engineering and Transportation Engineering of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Member of the Civil Engineering Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. He is the President of International Society of Lifeline and Infrastructure Earthquake Engineering, committee member of The International Association of Protective Structures, Seismology Society of China, China Civil Engineering Society, The Architectural Society of China, The Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering. He has been dedicated to teaching and scientific research of Structure dynamics, Soil dynamics and Geotechnical Earthquake engineering in Harbin Institute of Technology, China, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research and Beijing University of Technology in China.
