He is also the vice president of the Chinese Society for Microbiology. His research focuses on investigating bacterial pathogenesis using genomics- and proteomics-based techniques. He has published more than 200 articles on leading international journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics, PNAS, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and ISME Journal etc.
