About the Author Dr. Scott Arthur is currently a professor at the Institute for Infrastructure & Environment, Heriot-Watt University, UK. He began his research career in 1992 working under the supervision of Professor Richard Ashley on a high profile EPSRC funded project investigating sediment and pollutant transport within combined sewer networks. Following this work in Dundee, in 1996, he moved to a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position at Heriot-Watt University (Building Dept. with Prof John Snwaffield) and subsequently (August 2000) appointed within Heriot-Watt University to a lecturing position. Since that time, his research has been supported by EPSRC, the European Union, the Scottish Government, the Royal Academy of Engineering, SNIFFER & CREW. Prof. Arthur research comprises work on all aspects of urban drainage systems from roof systems to urban watercourse and large sewer networks. He has published 57 international papers in indexed journals and has been involved in several research projects funded by Scottish Government and European Union. Dr Masato Saitoh is currently a professor at the Graduate School of Science & Engineering, Saitama University, Japan. After obtaining a Doctor of Engineering (D.Engg.) from Saitama University in 2001, Dr Saitoh has moved to academia as an Assistant Professor at Saitama University. Earlier, he was working as a researcher at the Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) in Japan. His primary research interests include the dynamic response of the soil-pile system, foundation engineering. He has published 28 international papers in top-notch journals along with 13 national journals. Prof. Saitoh also holds 13 patents including international PCT subsidized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) on his developed research works and lead a significant number of research projects funded by the Japanese Government (JSPS). In 2017, Prof. Saitoh received best lecturer award from Saitama University for his outstanding teaching contribution. He also received the best paper award from the Japanese Geotechnical Society in 2003 and best speaker
