These play an important part of China's modernization process, and reflect scientific institutionalization in China. The book also highlights the fact that under the leadership of the government, the academic elite became participants in the construction of national academic system after the founding of the People's Republic of China. About the Author Guo Jinhai, professor in the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences. His areas of work are in the history of modern Science and Technology in China, history of Chinese Academy of Sciences. His book the Oral Autobiography of Xi Zezong (席泽宗) was elected into the fourth "Three Hundred" Original Books Project in November 2013.
