She is the recipient of several prestigious fellowships including the McNamara fellowship of the World Bank, 1999–2000, the Asia fellowship of the Asian Scholarship Foundation 2002–03 and the Tata Trust fellowships. She has served as Senior Academic Consultant (on deputation) to the Indian Council of Social Science Research, (ICSSR), and has been ICSSR Senior Fellow, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. She is the founding editor of <em>Millennial Asia</em>, a Sage Journal.
