Description

De Rotterdamse fotograaf Pieter Vandermeer portretteerde op onnavolgbare wijze een keur aan New Yorkers. Dat deed hij jaren achtereen met de Polaroid Land 195 camera, op straat in New York. Daarnaast zette hij New Yorker beroemdheden op de plaat tijdens vele jaargangen van het Internationaal Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). De negatieven van Pieter’s unieke fotomateriaal uit New York zijn digitaal opgepoetst en door ontwerpersduo Rick Vermeulen en Marjolijn Verbist in een strak ontwerp gebonden. Hripsimé Visser, Wim de Jong, Gerwin Tamsma en Gabriëlle Kok verzorgden er tekst bij. De foto’s weerspiegelen Pieters uiterst persoonlijke benadering van het fenomeen portret. Voor alle liefhebbers van portretkunst en van New York City is dit boek: Polaroids and Portraits, Pieter’s New Yorkers.
