Product Description Las mujeres aportan contribuciones significativas a la economia rural en todas las regiones de los paises en desarrollo. Sus roles difieren segun las regiones, aunque siempre tienen un menor acceso que los hombres a los recursos y oportunidades que necesitan para ser mas productivas. Si se incrementara el acceso de las mujeres a la tierra, la ganaderia, la educacion, los servicios financieros, la extension, la tecnologia y el empleo rural, aumentarian su productividad asi como la produccion agricola, la seguridad alimentaria, el crecimiento economico y el bienestar social. Por si solo, el cierre de la brecha de genero en el ambito de los insumos agricolas podria sacar del hambre a 100-150 millones de personas. No existe una pauta concreta para cerrar la brecha de genero, pero algunos principios basicos son universales: los gobiernos, la comunidad internacional y la sociedad civil deben trabajar juntos para eliminar las discriminaciones en el ambito legal, promover la igualdad de acceso a los recursos y oportunidades, garantizar que las politicas y los programas agricolas tengan en cuenta la dimension del genero, y hacer oir la voz de las mujeres como asociadas en pie de igualdad en aras del desarrollo sostenible. El lograr la igualdad de genero y el empoderamiento de las mujeres en la agricultura no solo es justo; tambien es crucial para el desarrollo agricola y la seguridad alimentaria.
