In dit boek wordt op heldere wijze en met talloze aansprekende voorbeelden uitgelegd wat deze statistieken of kengetallen betekenen en hoe ze kunnen worden gebruikt. Achtereenvolgens komen aan de orde: de datamatrix, centrum- en spreidingsmaten, associatiematen voor variabelen met een nominaal, ordinaal, interval en ratio meetniveau, enkelvoudige en meervoudige regressieanalyse, betrouwbaarheidsanalyses en factoranalyse. Een goed begrip van statistiek ontstaat eigenlijk pas als je weet hoe je statistische kengetallen berekent. De berekening van deze kengetallen op basis van de formules komt uitgebreid aan bod. Hoe deze statistieken vervolgens met SPSS kunnen worden uitgerekend, is beschreven in aparte kaders. Daarnaast besteden de auteurs aandacht aan de wijze waarop statistische gegevens moeten worden geïnterpreteerd en hoe je ze weergeeft in een verslag. Deze geheel herziene druk is geactualiseerd en nóg gebruiksvriendelijker gemaakt. De voorbeelden zijn aangepast aan de nieuwste versie van SPSS (23 voor Windows).
