Longchen Rabjam wordt geëerd als een van de grootste leraren in de Nyingma-school van het Vajrayana-boeddhisme. Hij schreef meer dan 250 verhandelingen over een breed scala van onderwerpen, maar is het meest bekend van zijn boeken over dzogchen, of grote volmaaktheid, in het bijzonder de uitgebreide scholastische tekstuitleg van de tantra’s van de grote volmaaktheid, bekend als de Zeven Schatten. Deze verzameling bespreekt de oorspronkelijke aard die de grond van alle ervaring is, het zicht, de meditatie, de handelwijze en de uiteindelijke vrijheid die de verwezenlijking is van het spirituele pad. De schat die gewoonlijk bekendstaat als de Chöying Dzöd, bestaat uit twee teksten, namelijk Longchen Rabjam’s brontekst (afzonderlijk gepubliceerd als The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena) en zijn eigen commentaar daarop. Dit boek, Een Schatkist van Overdracht door Geschriften, bevat (naast de brontekst) dat commentaar, dat uitgebreid ingaat op de thema’s die in de bronverzen worden gepresenteerd. Deze bij elkaar horende teksten behandelen de trekchö benadering (het doorsnijden van soliditeit) van grote volmaaktheid, die spirituele beoefenaren met een zeer grote scherpzinnigheid moeiteloos tot vrijheid brengt. Terwijl Longchen Rabjam uitgebreid put uit de tantra’s en de kerninstructies van de grote volmaaktheid, vat hij de bepalende thema’s van deze benadering samen vanuit het perspectief van de fundamentele ruimte van fenomenen – natuurlijk voorkomend oorspronkelijk gewaarzijn, de ontwaakte geest. Longchen Rabjam stelt over de Chöying Dzöd: “Hoewel de thema’s in deze tekst zo diepgaand zijn dat gewone mensen het lastig zullen vinden hun betekenis te doorgronden, heb ik ze gepresenteerd zonder ze te versnijden met gewonere thema’s. Op deze manier heb ik gewaarborgd dat deze leer over de vajra hart-essentie, de meest majestueuze spirituele benadering, lang in de wereld zullen meegaan.” “Aan degenen van jullie die fortuinlijk genoeg zijn om een toegewijde belangstelling te hebben voor deze voortreffelijke spirituele benadering is mijn welgemeende advies: Deze tekst zal dienen als jouw ogen, dus behandel hem met het grootst mogelijke respect”. Dit boek bevat een voorwoord door Zijne Eminentie Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, een inleiding door Eerwaarde Tulku Thondup Rinpoche, een voorwoord bij de Nederlandse vertaling door Daan Goedhart, en Patrul Rinpoche’s “Oproep om de Zeven Schatten te Lezen”. De tekst werd vanuit het Tibetaans naar het Engels vertaald door Richard Barron met het Padma Translation Committee en uitgegeven door Padma Publishing. Daan Goedhart vertaalde deze uitgave naar het Nederlands, met steun van Marianne de Soet en Dorothea van der Sar, onder redactie van Hans Knibbe. Stichting Zijnsoriëntatie heeft tot doel om het gedachtegoed van Zijnsoriëntatie zoals Hans Knibbe dit heeft ontwikkeld, te ontsluiten voor iedereen die hier baat bij zou kunnen hebben. Hans Knibbe (1949) is de oprichter van de school voor Zijnsoriëntatie. In dzogchen vond hij zijn belangrijkste inspiratie die hij – op geheel eigen, Westerse wijze – steeds verder uitgewerkt heeft tot een modern pad van verlichte levenskunst.
