De TRACE geeft in korte tijd een helder beeld van het semantische onderscheidingsvermogen op woordniveau van de patiënt. Het unieke van de TRACE is dat de test verbale semantische stoornissen kan vaststellen bij patiënten die op een begripstest voor concrete woorden een goed resultaat behalen. Het instrument heeft diagnostische waarde voor diverse patiëntgroepen. Afname van de TRACE bevestigt bijvoorbeeld anamnestische klachten bij (afasie)patiënten met een taalstoornis na een beroerte, fungeert als eerste indicator voor de aanwezigheid van een taalstoornis bij de ziekte van Alzheimer en functioneert als diagnostisch criterium bij het onderscheid in subtypen bij patiënten met een degeneratieve ziekte waarbij een taalstoornis optreedt. Door de geringe afnameduur kan de TRACE in alle stadia van herstel dan wel van achteruitgang worden ingezet. . Toepassing • Screening: geeft een indicatie van de aanwezigheid van begripsstoornissen m.b.t. abstracte woorden; helpt bij beeldvorming m.b.t. het semantisch onderscheidingsvermogen op woordniveau • Diagnose: inzetbaar in de diagnostiek bij diverse patiëntgroepen met hersenletsel• Behandeling: helpt bij het opstellen van een behandelplan en meet het effect van gegeven therapie • Onderzoek: heeft toegevoegde waarde voor Nederlands testonderzoek,doordat TRACE het begrip van abstracte woorden onafhankelijk van het begrip van concrete woorden meet. Voor wie? De TRACE wordt in principe afgenomen door een logopedist of klinisch linguïst, maar ook professionals uit andere disciplines met affiniteit voor afasie en taal, zoals neuropsychologen, klinisch psychologen of neurologen kunnen met de TRACE werken. Enige toelichting van een logopedist of klinisch linguïst is dan raadzaam, bijvoorbeeld over de wijze van afname, snelheid van presenteren en inschatting van het leesniveau van de patiënt. Afname en scoring De afnameduur is gemiddeld 20 minuten. De opgaven worden visueel aangeboden. De patiënt leest het doelwoord en de vier woorden waarmee het doelwoord al dan niet gerelateerd kan worden. De patiënt kiest het woord dat in betekenis het meest met het doelwoord gerelateerd is. Normen De TRACE bevat de volgende normgegevens: • patiënten met een afasie ten gevolge van een beroerte • patiënten met de ziekte van Alzheimer Materiaal • TRACE-complete set • TRACE-scoreformulieren (set van 25) • TRACE-handleiding
