Dit boek biedt een eigentijdse geloofsverantwoording van twee theologen die de christelijke geloofstraditie levend willen houden. Kernachtig en met overtuiging beschrijven ze voor nieuwe generaties studenten en theologen de christelijke leer, in gesprek met de traditie, de kerk en de eigen tijd. Ze richten zich daarbij ook op anderen die geïnteresseerd zijn in de inhoud van het christelijk geloof, inclusief zoekers, sceptici en critici. De auteurs bespreken het geloof niet geïsoleerd, maar verbinden dit in zijn veelzijdigheid en levendigheid met de vragen van cultuur, samenleving en het leven van alledag. Terugkerend uitgangspunt is het Onze Vader, als concrete gebedspraktijk waarin het geloof tot uitdrukking komt. De overkoepelende structuur van het boek wordt gevormd door de christelijke leer van de Drie-eenheid. Nadenken over inhoudelijke geloofsvragen blijkt nog altijd een bron van enorme intellectuele en spirituele vreugde te kunnen zijn. Inmiddels is de zesde druk van dit standaardwerk verschenen. Prof. dr. C. (Kees) van der Kooi is emeritus hoogleraar systematische theologie Vrije Universiteit en Distinguished Lecturer Eesa/Eurac Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. Dr. G. van den Brink (Woerden) is hoogleraar Theologie en Wetenschap aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
