Description

This volume demonstrates the significance middlebrow writing had for the dissemination of new concepts of gender to wider audiences. By exploring the media culture between 1890 and 1930 it gives evidence of the relative proximity between middlebrow writers and the avant-garde in their concern for gender issues. About the Author Christoph Ehland is Professor of English Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn in Germany. He has published on Scottish writing, writer's biographies and cultural conceptions of space and mobility from the early modern period to the present. Cornelia Wächter is Assistant Professor of British Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn, Germany. She is the author of Place-ing the Prison Officer: The 'Warder' in the British Literary and Cultural Imagination (Rodopi/Brill, 2015).
