Description
While the resolution and scope of cardiac imaging continue to expand, the availability of pathology specimens demonstrating the features and nuances of congenital heart disease is limited to a few museums and registries. This teaching tool integrates the morphology of congenital heart disease with the echocardiographic appearance (including labeled line drawings) of a range of defects, which are categorized into 31 sections. For each defect, a how–to section specifies the views, measurements and associations that should be sought to achieve a complete echocardiogram. Therapeutic options for each defect are discussed with pathologic and echocardiographic illustrations and the components of a complete echocardiogram for patients following individual interventions are summarized. The easy to use format makes excellent use of commentary accompanying movies and captioned views of pathology specimens. This tool will enable a better understanding of the morphology, imaging, treatment and follow–up of patients with congenital heart disease.
